An apology for failing to respond to email

I receive a substantial number of emails regarding the software tools I publish. In the past I largely have been successful in responding to these emails in a timely manner. However, I regret to say that over the last year I have failed to respond to most of this correspondence. As I approach the end of my Ph.D. the competing demands on my time have grown ever more intense, and various aspects of my personal and professional life have suffered. I would like to offer my sincere apologies to everyone who emails me but fails to get a response. I value the thoughts and suggestions you have to offer, and I would normally try to provide answers to all of the queries I receive, but until my studies are complete I am unlikely to be able to devote as much time to correspondence as I would otherwise wish.

I would like to assure you that supporting the software I publish is a priority for me. However, one of the implications of offering software at no charge is that there is no source of funding to provide more formal support. Supporting users therefore relies on a charitable donation of my free time, which I have very little of. I am investigating longer term solutions to the problem of support in the hope of being able to provide timely feedback to users.

Best wishes with your geospatial endeavours.

Sincerely, Hawthorne
